The Solar System

Basic Version

Solar System 2.0

What changed?

  • I made the Sun a glowing object. However, due to the fact that its light was fairly weak, I had to find another way to provide light for the solar system, which made me

  • Embed (hide) a point light in the Sun. Most of the light shown in the animation is provided by the point light.

  • I added a 3D environment using a HDRI background mapped onto a globe skydome, which surrounds the solar system. The HDRI allows the galaxy background to shift dynamically with camera angles, creating a more immersive effect.

  • Due to time constraints, I was unable to implement gradual camera motion, so the environment’s movement was instead compensated by rotating the skydome.

Things that can be better:

  • I wish the Sun had a visible and much stronger glow.

  • The textures of the planets could have been more realistic.

  • Use real camera motion instead of rotating the background.

Disney Design Principles:

1. Exaggeration

  • Ball stretches and squashes to show surprised emotions.

2. Timing

  • The second ball is omitted from the scene at the beginning to avoid competing with the first ball.

  • Avoided having drastic motions on both balls at the same time.

3. Staging

  • Switched between camera angles to capture the desired motion at the center.

To do:

1. Change to more interesting environment

2. Add camera motions

3. Maybe add audio
